Research & Development Technician

About BurnBot
BurnBot provides systematic fuels treatment services to prevent destructive wildfires.
We're firefighters, scientists, engineers, prescribed fire practitioners, ecologists, and community members who are answering the call to scale fuel treatment capacity. Our modern fuel treatment system recognizes and supports conservation efforts with a clean, smoke-free process. We need technology to amplify our workforces with targeted use of synthetic fire to treat fuel loads 10x faster than previously possible.
The Role
BurnBot is seeking a friendly, positive and motivated Technician to support the daily operations of our Research & Development (R&D) team. In this role the R&D Technician will be responsible for supporting the engineers and fabricators as needed in the South San Francisco workshop, and helping to maintain the shop and equipment. Safety is our top priority, so understanding safety and how to use tools and equipment in collaboration with others is key, as is having a well maintained workshop.
Required Skills
● An individual highly motivated, innovative and organized with strong communication and mechanical skills.
● Background working in industrial environment, machine shop, laboratory or workshop.
● General knowledge of hand, power or machine tools.
● Organized, careful and conscientious; pays attention to detail.
● Strong bias for action and the ability to execute timelines with or without guidance.
● Ability to determine root cause of problems and effectively find solutions.
● Excellent communication skills; oral, written and presentation.
● Builds effective working relationships at all levels and cross functionally.
● Manages workshop organization and daily function - ensuring a clean and safe workspace.
● Can adapt to a fast changing environment and work priorities.
● Comfortable working with computers: Microsoft and google products and databases.
● Desire to learn, ask questions and take on new responsibilities as needed.
● Ability to walk or stand up 75% of the workday.
● Physical ability to lift/push/pull weights of 80 lbs (or more).
It would be cool if you…
● Have experience using a vertical milling machine or lathe for metalworking
● Are able to weld or had interest in learning to weld
● Understood the fabrication cycle
● Have experience driving a forklift
